Accredited with exemplary status
“Programs that were good in the past have become event better and have raised the bar even higher than imagined.”
In fall 2017, Providence Health Care received the designation of Accredited with Exemplary Standing from Accreditation Canada, a body that assesses health care organizations against strict standards of excellence.
The standing was exciting enough. What made it more special was the fact it was the second consecutive time Providence has earned it.
This collective achievement validates the commitment to exceptional patient and resident care, research and teaching that Providence’s 6,500+ staff, 1,100+ physicians/medical staff, and 1,500 volunteers at 17 sites demonstrate every day.
Accreditation Canada surveyors, who spent a week at Providence, said it met 99% of over 3,000 standards across leadership, governance and clinical programs. That’s more than Providence met in 2013, the last time it achieved this top standing. And the standards were higher and more numerous this time around.
Accreditation Canada said Providence’s culture was a major strength, offering up a palpable sense of warmth and caring. It called Mission unique, saying its spiritual care, cultural competency and ethics contribute to the integration of Providence values into its daily work. In their interactions with patient and community partners, the Accreditation Canada surveyors noted the consistent theme of collaboration and our partnering with patients and families, citing that these partner interviews highlighted “the patient and family-centred approach that is alive and part of all clinical processes.”
The standing validates that Providence puts patients, residents and families first and lives its mission, vision and values every day.
